Report Details

Glatt Consulting’s Credit Union Industry HealthScore is a composite financial performance score reflecting the financial health of US-based credit unions. The HealthScore system calculates overall credit union health by scoring/grading credit union performance across eleven different key ratios including Net Worth, ROAA, Operating Expense, Efficiency, Charge-Off, Delinquency, Loans, Deposits, Loan-to-Share, Asset Growth, and Membership Growth. Grading is based on a five-point scale, with 0 reflecting poor health and 5 reflecting exceptional health.

Glatt Consulting is often called upon to aid credit unions in strategy development, including merger strategy. The HealthScore system was developed in 2008 as a means to quickly identify and rank the overall “health” of potential merger candidates on behalf of client credit unions. The use of the HealthScore system has since been expanded to support client engagements outside of merger strategy, including as a reference tool for client strategy planning and assessment, CEO performance evaluation criteria, market expansion, and more.

The HealthScore report is designed to provide credit union leaders insight into how their credit union’s latest HealthScore and component scores compare to various segments of the credit union community, including credit unions that have been designated as “ones to watch.” Our expectation is that CEOs, senior executives and board members will find this report helpful in identifying (and perhaps further researching and learning from) credit unions that are doing well by industry standards.

It is also our expectation that credit union leaders will seek to understand and/or validate the reasons for their own scores and/or the strategies driving scores. We believe that as leaders review their credit union’s health as compared to the health of various other national, peer, state and local credit unions, the opportunity will arise to challenge the tradeoffs being made to achieve high performance in specific areas of strategic focus.
