If You Read Anything Today… Read This

Businessweek

On December 6 Bloomberg Businessweek published an interview with Apple CEO Tim Cook. If you read anything today, read this interview.

Why? I’ll tell you why. The way this man talkes about his company, about his friendship with former Apple CEO Steve Jobs, about his interactions with customers… is quite simply amazing. I have been involved in the credit union community for eighteen years and I have only come across a handful of credit union CEO’s who speak so deeply about the credit unions they lead, about the relationships they have with colleagues, about members. I think every credit union can learn a little bit from this interview.

You will find it here: http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-12-06/tim-cooks-freshman-year-the-apple-ceo-speaks

As you read it think about your perspective regarding the credit union you work for. Do you care about it? Is it just a job, or a part of your life?

And think about the management team you are a member of, and perhaps lead. Are they people you can’t wait to leave behind at the end of a day or are they real friends?

And think about your members. Do you welcome their communications, or cringe when a member letter is addressed to you? Do your members even care what you do, or who you are?

Apple certainly isn’t perfect. It makes mistakes. But the people that run the company love the company and the customers that make the company what it is. Can the same be said about you?

Something to think about.
